Sometimes with all the talk about Parties and fun gatherings, its easy to forget that Planet Angel is a Social Enterprise that aims to make a social profit, not a financial one, and one of the ways it does that is to help people achieve their aims.

Being involved in Planet Angel can be immensely rewarding and have real benefits, this personal heart-warming account is written by Heather who started as a Host and ended up being a Coordinator. It’s a wonderful positive reminder of why we do it, and why Planet Angel is a worthwhile organisation.

There are many ways to get involved with Planet Angel, if you’d like to chat about it, just get in touch :)

Me and Planet Angel: By Heather

"Working for Planet Angel gave an enormous boost to my self confidence.  I started volunteering as a caretaker, then became a host, covered the hosting co-ordinator role a few times and finally became activities co-ordinator.

As a host, I learned a lot about teamwork.  Being asked to cover the co-ordinator role was exciting, it showed that Planet Angel trusted me to do an important role and take on extra responsibilities, something I’d been wary of before.  Moving onto the artist co-ordinator role meant I got to use skills once again that I’d developed in my drama degree and working in theatre, giving me a new sense of purpose in life.

I developed leadership skills and learned how to delegate, things I didn’t have much experience with previously.  This has helped a lot in my job at Macmillan Cancer Support, where I liaise with a wide range of facilitators and service providers, arranging training to support people affected by cancer.

The people skills developed at Planet Angel have enabled me to get more involved in recruiting and supporting new staff at Macmillan.  I have also made many lasting friendships through Planet Angel and have found strong support at difficult times and a whole new social world.  Planet Angel values people for who they are, so it doesn’t matter how old you are or what your background is – I have always felt welcome."

Thanks for your feedback!

survey imageThere was a great response to our first of a series of mini surveys to find out what you want. Thanks so much to those who responded, you’ve helped improve the way we send out our emails and the way we announce Party dates!

What came over loud and clear is that you want to know Party dates well in advance. We’ve done as you asked and future dates are on the Invites (the little handouts available at the Party to give to your friends) and on the next Party page on our website.  We’ll also keep you up to date as far ahead as we can via email.

This month we’ve another two questions, if you have a sec to give us your feedback it’d be greatly appreciated and you’ll be helping us make things even better!

One thing we’re not short of at Planet Angel is talented DJs and Producers and it’s occurred to us that we can share that talent between the Parties!  We’re starting a series of free download mixes, exclusively put together for the Planet Angel community by our Resident and Guest DJs, featuring the musical genres at the Party.  We’ll be sending one out each month with our email newsletters so feel free to join up if you’ve not already!

tequila slammer logoThe first Exclusive Mix Download is ‘Contact’  and it's Tequila’s take on the Funky Lounge sound of the moment containing electro house, bootlegs, breaks and little bit of tough D&B. It’s an excellent mix and is a great showcase for Tequila’s talents for taking you on a musical journey that just keeps getting better!

The free mix downloads have been specially compiled for the Planet Angel community and are available for free, to subscribers to our mailing list. Feel free to join up here

Here’s what Tequila has to say about ‘Contact’...

"This mix will always be special to me, as it's heavily based on what was the first Funky Lounge set of my new Planet Angel residency. As some of you will know, a few years ago I took a step back from Planet Angel to pursue some personal projects. In a perfect display of universal synergy (...or something like that), Planet Angel got in touch just before the February party to re-offer me a residency, at exactly the same time that I had decided to devote more of my life to music again.

The reception I received from the crowd at the February Party was truly amazing. As well as being a reminder of a wonderful time for me, I hope this mix will act as a thank-you to all of you who were there and helped make it special. For those of you who weren't, at least it'll be something funky to get you in the mood on a Friday night."

hands in teh airYou might think we’re raving mad (see what we did there;) but we like to have lots of fun and being March and all that, we thought we’d celebrate the first month of spring and give this Party a march-madness twist, Planet Angel style...

We have a spectacular DJ line up providing excellent music in all three rooms (details in the usual way:) including a debut by SpackRac and there’s oodles of fun stuff to get interactive with including... Remember the bubble wrap Party?  Well it’s back; actually we’re looking for two ‘bubble wrappers’ to do a neat job of bubble wrapping the weirdest things – you’ll earn free entry to the Party so get in touch if you’re up for that!

We’re also going mad with lasers!  Expect a veritable laser feast in the Meltdown Room for those perfect hands in the air moments while in the Funky lounge those; lovable lunatics from Lucifer Visuals are doing a mad-cap first-ever VJ installation... ‘Painting with light’ If you like using glowsticks, you’re going to love this as the projected light trails from your dancing glowsticks get beamed across the room!  Remember, you saw it at Planet Angel first!

Following on from the fantastic Neon Cress Tubes at the February Party, Planeteers Fraser and Sam are going to be back encouraging the March Madness with a Fluro Pipe cleaners and Googly Eyes workshop! Ha! We’re almost tempted to give a prize for the craziest creation... humm maybe!  Also look out for something to do with Mad Hatters and the most unusual Tee Party ever!...  oo and did you know marbles is a game traditionally played in March? We've found some very cool ones :)

We're also pleased to welcome Sam – who’s usually seen wandering around in his wonderland but this month will be face painting and creating wonderful things all over you! Also check out Ben our wondering Magician it’s his first time at Planet Angel and he’s got some cool tricks up his sleeve!

P.S. As we don’t publicly advertise our Parties, the details are only accessible to people on the mailing list. You can really help by spreading the word to your like-minded friends but if you're talking about our Parties on line, please don’t publicly mention the location :) Thanks!

We’ve always said it’s your Party and we’re always trying to make the Parties even better and improve the way we do things. To do that properly we need to know what you think so we’ll be posting up a few questions, and we’d love it if you’d take the time to reply!

They’re nothing major!  For example right now we’re thinking about the right time to send our emails to the mailing list (and how often), so, if you are on the mailing list and have a minute to answer these two questions we’d appreciate it!

We’ll be providing more questions soon so that we can get your opinions but we love to receive feedback so feel free to contact us at any time!

So, it’s the beginning of a new year, a new decade even and the beginning of the second decade for Planet Angel! After the wonderful X Party and the storming NYE Ball, we’re back to a more familiar space to hold our first Party of 2010.

And of course there’s more, lots more actually! We’ve lined up loads of fun art and activities, a very special Happening and probably the most unusual workshop ever!

You can find out full DJ line- up and activities in the useful way.

So, in the mean time take care and see you at the Party!

P.S. As we don’t publicly advertise our Parties, the details are only accessible to people on the mailing list. You can really help by spreading the word to your like-minded friends but if you're talking about our Parties on line, please don’t publicly mention the location. Thanks :)

Hot on the heels of a spectacular X Party, we’re pleased to announce the first ever Planet Angel Ball!  For New Year’s Eve we wanted to create magical gathering where we all party together in one, wonderful space. And what could be better on New Year’s Eve than going to a Ball: Planet Angel style!

We’ve found a superb venue and are creating a Party as special as the full blue moon that will grace us for the evening. Musically we’re planning a journey that spans all of our favourite genres from the Meltdown Room, Funky Lounge and the Ibiza Bar, expertly woven together by an outstanding team of Resident and Guest DJs.

There’s an Art Deco theme to the Ball with a cosy and elegant chill out area in Deco style and a huge dancing arena with a special rear-lit DJ booth with special visuals created just for the Ball...  Also expect a very serious sound system, a full-on colour laser and high end lighting systems.

As you’d expect there’s lots of Planet Angel style creativity and fun things to do with Art Deco inspired workshops and activities...  There’s a bar with sensible drink prices, proper loos and a smoking area...

This really will be a special, one-off New Year’s Eve celebration, the kind of thing that happens once in a blue moon.

See you at The Ball!

Ticket Information:

This is a * Limited Ticket * event.

As ever, we keep our ticket prices as low as we can, the good news is we’ve kept the same prices as last year!  That’s £25 including vat for Limited Early Bird Tickets and £35 for normal tickets.

Please Note: Last year, both Early Bird and normal tickets sold out well in advanced of the event, book early to avoid disappointment! The venue is located in the Shoreditch area of London in E8 with easy access via tubes and busses. Full venue details will be published in the usual way and to the mailing list nearer the time.

P.S. As we don’t publicly advertise our Parties, the details are only accessible to people on the mailing list.  You can really help by spreading the word to your like-minded friends but if you're talking about our Parties on line, please don’t publicly mention the location. Thanks :)

What a way to celebrate 10 years!

With so many fantastic photos it’s easy to see the lovely vibe at the X Party. Our 10 year anniversary X Party was everything we’d hoped, a reunion, a celebration, a coming together of like-minded people drenched with art, creativity with a wonderful friendly vibe.  The positive energy that went into the X Party was incredible, from the New History Wall (Ah! Some wonderful memories there!), the Planet Angel Story Book (announcement about this coming soon!) and of course those amazing art installations, Seb’s Funky Psy Forest, the Time Traveller’s Clock and the Memory Glow... excellent.

Thanks also of course to the excellent live bands, Cern and Cellardore for fantastic performances befitting such and occasion and the DJs who provided such an incredible musical journey in all three areas - right up to home time!

As everyone knows, events like this don’t run themselves, they take enormous planning and energy in the run up and on the night, so huge thanks and respect to those involved in the behind the scenes work during the day, night and morning after ;)

And most of all; thanks to everyone who came to celebrate, what a night!

With and X Party smiles still on our faces, we’re of to start work on our last Party for a while; The New Year’s Eve Ball...

P.S. Look out for a short video of the X Party coming soon.

a bit of tree and eyeballsThere has been a staggering amount of positive energy invested in the X Party, art installations, Story Books, special Front of House planning, designing and lots of technical bits! This is going to be a very special Party indeed. If you’re coming, some wonderful things await you but if you can’t make it in person, don’t worry, tune into the webcast! Just visit the website at 10pm today (Friday 27th Nov.) and join in the virtual Party!

As you’d expect there is excellent music as well, including two live acts, the inimitable CERN, and Cellardore performing a special live performance with a drummer and all! In fact those nice people at HarderFaster were so interested they’ve posted up a feature about Cellardore... you can get a taster of his unique music from the article!

PS the photo is part of Seb’s Funky Psy Forest (one of the art installations for the X Party) being built at the 491 Gallery (thanks for lending the space guys!), its part of one of the trees and, humm... what will all those balls become?
